The Roots of Half Moon Power Yoga

In the middle of our studio floor stands a tall and strong tree. Pinned to this tree are notes known as intentions, left by students and instructors who have found peace and strength during their yoga practice. Sharing these intentions helps our students and instructors define who they want to become in this world and how they will realize this desire.

Baptiste Yoga

Baptiste Yoga™ was founded in the 1940′s by Walt Baptiste and remains accessible to anyone today who is looking for personal transformation. Much of the physical aspects of the Baptiste Yoga™ style are inspired by the Hatha Yoga teachings of Krishnamacharya and his students Iyengar and Desikachar, whom Baron Baptiste studied with personally from a young age.

  • MICHELLE HAMILTON
    MICHELLE HAMILTON ERYT-500, YACEP, TIER 2 CERTIFIED BAPTISTE POWER YOGA EDUCATOR

    Michelle, an RYT-200 and owner of Half Moon Power Yoga, leads a breath-focused class that strengthens the body and balances the mind. In her classes, students learn to practice with grace on the mat and to live by grace off of the mat. Michelle embodies Half Moon Power Yoga’s passion for continuing one’s yoga education. As a ERYT, she has taught over 1000 hours, Michelle is a Baptiste Certified instructor and has completed a Baptiste Kid’s yoga certification. She is also a Reiki Master and provides training opportunities for those wanting to deepen their yoga practice and experience growth.

  • Sumerlin Larsen-Lesperance
    Sumerlin Larsen-Lesperance ERYT-200, YACEP, TIER 2 CERTIFIED BAPTISTE POWER YOGA EDUCATOR

    Sumerlin leads a fiery class, with loads of encouragement. Sumerlin’s goal is to help each student realize their full potential, knowing what we practice on the mat, follows us into life. Sumerlin believes community is instrumental to growth in one’s yoga practice, and meeting one’s goals, and therefore fosters connection in every class.

  • DIANE BENVENUTO
    DIANE BENVENUTO ERYT-200, YACEP, Baptiste Power Yoga Instructor Credential

    Diane Benvenuto challenges her classes to approach their yoga practice mindfully, to listen to their inner teacher, and to take it one breathe at a time to reach their personal edge. Diane’s classes are encouraging, playful and upbeat offering different options to asanas to meet the needs of different bodies.

  • Molly Oczkowski
    Molly Oczkowski RYT-200

    After discovering yoga several years ago in the San Francisco bay area, Molly fell in love with the practice as a challenging and mindful activity with benefits that spill off the mat into our entire lives. She decided to deepen her practice and gain the ability to share it with others by going through Corepower’s yoga teacher training while living in Washington, DC, and has since been fulfilling her passion to help people discover their full potential mentally and physically through yoga. You’ll leave her classes sweaty, energized, and ready to take on the world.

  • Shivani Barto
    Shivani Barto RYT-200

    Shivani is a dentist, but her true identity is more deeply rooted in yoga. She is passionate about all things wellness including nutrition, fitness, and sustainability. Since completing her 200-hour training in 2012, she has taught in various studio settings and has developed a unique teaching style. Join Shivani for a class and experience creative flows, involving a marriage of mobility and strength. She practices by the foundation that ‘motion creates emotion’ and moving your body with intentional breath is a powerful way to foster positivity. She hopes that her students leave every class with a refreshed sense of presence, gratitude, and growth.

  • Emily Shupe
    Emily Shupe RYT-200

    Emily believes in empowering others with a strong, creative yoga class.  Emily has her master’s degree in Nutrition and she combines yoga and nutrition to create healthy living practices.  Yoga has changed Emily’s life and she wants to support others on their journey to healthful living.  Emily also loves traveling, hiking, cooking, and being outdoors.  Her favorite food is pizza and her favorite travel destination is anywhere that is wild!

  • Kristel Perry
    Kristel Perry RYT-200, Baptiste Power Yoga Instructor Credential

    Kristel has over 10 years experience in various fitness activities, but has been a steady yogi for over 6 years. In addition to her 200-hour certification, Kristel is a Reiki Level 1 graduate and enjoys bringing the energy to her yoga practice. You can expect to be challenged, grow, and definitely have fun in Kristel’s class! She has a zest for life and a positive spirit that is contagious.

    Tasha Green RYT-200

    Tasha has a passion for meeting practitioners exactly where they are in life. She finds purpose in the partnership created to awaken possibility, both on and off the mat. When not teaching yoga, Tasha thrives as a professional makeup artist, a wife, and a mom to two awesome kiddos and two crazy pups.

  • Ashley Dwight
    Ashley Dwight RYT-200

    Ashley fell in love with yoga when she found her first Baptiste Power flow class in Seattle in 2007.  She immediately felt the potential of yoga to transform her life.  She has been committed to her physical, spiritual, and emotional growth through yoga since then.  She loves crafting unique playlists and sequences for her classes.  She aims to create space for her students to embrace and commit to the full healing potential of yoga.  Her hope is that her students realize and experience yoga for more than a workout but as a healing practice and a chance to meet and express their innate wholeness.

  • Sybil Webb
    Sybil Webb RYT-200

    Sybil fell in love with yoga after she took her first class twenty years ago. Her own practice is rooted in Ashtanga and her style of teaching incorporates a combination of Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow. She is certified in energy work and health & wellness coaching, and supports in an integrative approach to healing and self-discovery. In addition to teaching and practicing yoga, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. 

  • Kylie Pun
    Kylie Pun RYT-200

    Kylie felt peaceful and calm after she first discovered yoga in India. After she moved to San Antonio in 2019, she started practicing at HMPY and felt so powerful and strong after each practice.

    Kylie enjoys challenges and is willing to step out of her comfort zone. She loves leading classes to empower others. She says, “Don’t let fear stop you from growing in your practice and your life. To learn is the beauty of  being alive.”

  • Lindsay West
    Lindsay West RYT-200

    A vital part of her own personal journey, yoga is not just about practicing the physical asanas, but a foundation and a way of being. Lindsay believes that what we do on our mat-carries over into everyday life. The yoga mat is a great place to practice those skills. Lindsay facilitates a powerful, creatively sequenced, and strong yoga flow—with a dose of inspiration that will awaken her student’s inner spirit. The goal and hope of every class, is that students step off the mat feeling more physically, emotionally, and spiritually balanced, nourished, and relaxed.
